Some countries that are afraid of losing revenues from Russian gas transit. are opposed to Nord Stream 2.

The transit of Russian gas after 2019 is now discussed in the context of the planned construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.

The Nord Stream 2 project involves the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline running from the Russian coast via the Baltic Sea to Germany.

Gazprom owes $2.56 billion for already delivered gas. considering Naftogaz’s $2.1 billion debt.

The pipeline is expected to deliver 55 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas per year to the European Union.

The project has seen strong opposition from the European Commission as increasing EU'.s dependence on Russian gas and undermining Ukrainian transit.

Critics say that the natural-gas pipeline will strengthen Russia’s hand in Europe and isolate Ukraine.

The first round of talks regarding the extension of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after 2019 took place in July.

Russia'.s leading energy enterprise Gazprom and its partners intend to start implementing the Nord Stream-2 project worth almost 10 billion euros in April 2018.

The Ukrainian gas transportation system will be loaded in the next 5-10 years.
