Turkmenistan, Pakistan to Hold Talks on TAPI Gas Pipeline Project Implementation

Turkmenistan and Pakistan have reached an agreement on holding negotiations on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project in the near future, Trend reports.
This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, at a regular meeting of the government of the country.
According to him, this agreement was reached during the working visit of the Turkmen delegation to Pakistan last week.
Meredov noted that during the visit, meetings were held with the top leadership of Pakistan, discussing a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and paying special attention to the implementation of major joint projects in the energy sector.
He added that in addition to the TAPI gas pipeline, the parties discussed the laying of power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP).
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan’s Turkmengaz State Concern has completed the construction of a 214-kilometer section of the gas pipeline passing through Turkmen territory and has fully prepared it for operation.
It is expected that the TAPI gas pipeline will annually transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas along an 1800-kilometer route from Turkmen Galkynysh, the second largest gas field in the world, to the Indian city of Fazilka, located near the border of India with Pakistan.
