Iraq’s Bay Hassan oil field in the northern Kirkuk region was unaffected by an attack, the oil ministry said April 17, as OPEC’s second largest producer continues to grapple with security incidents against its energy infrastructure.
Two oil wells in Bay Hassan field were struck by two explosives without causing fires, material damage or human casualties, and production was not halted nor impacted, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry did not say who it believed was behind the incident, but has opened an investigation with security officials.
Iraq has seen several attacks on its energy infrastructure in recent years, as security in some parts of the country remains lax.
Iraq pumped 3.95 million b/d in March according to the latest S&P Global Platts OPEC+ survey, up from 3.89 million b/d in February.
